A Day at Gatorland Orlando: Feeding Capybaras and Meeting Gators
If you love animals, hands-on experiences, and a little bit of adventure, Gatorland in Orlando is a hidden gem you need to visit. It’s the perfect mix of thrilling wildlife encounters, quirky animal stars, and photo-worthy moments. During my visit, I found myself completely immersed from feeding the cutest capybaras to seeing jaw-dropping albino gators. If you’re planning a trip, I’ve got all the tips, must-dos, and insider info to help you make the most of your day.
Capybara Encounters – My Favorite Experience
Hands down, my favorite experience at Gatorland was meeting the capybaras. These little guys are adorable, and the experience is surprisingly interactive.
Important tips:
- Tickets are $12 and sold only at the venue, not online.
- Even if the event is in the afternoon, it sells out fast, so arrive early.
- You’ll feed them the veggies provided, take photos, and even have the option to print them on-site.
It’s a small, personal experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting- absolutely worth it.

Jumparoo Gator Show
Another must-see is the Jumparoo show, which happens on a schedule inside the park. You’ll watch gators leap and see them in action- it’s exciting, educational, and fun for all ages. Make sure to check the show times when you arrive.

Meet Jawlene – The One-of-a-Kind Alligator
Jawlene is an alligator unlike any other- she has no top jaw, which makes her really unique.

Feeding the Gators
For a hands-on experience, you can also feed the gators with “Gator Chow” sold on-site for $4.50. It’s amazing to see how quickly they snap it up- definitely a bucket-list moment for animal lovers.

Other Animals to See
Gatorland isn’t just about alligators- there’s so much wildlife to explore:
- Albino gators – rare and incredible to see
- Flamingos – perfect for colorful photos
- Tortoises and turtles
- Various birds – egrets, cranes, and exotic species
It’s small enough to feel personal, but packed with enough animals to keep your camera busy.

Snacks & Essentials
Inside the park, you can grab snacks like walking tacos– I thought they were surprisingly good. That said, I highly recommend bringing your own essentials:
- Water (stay hydrated!)
- Towel (for sweat)
- Snacks
- Comfortable shoes
- Moisture-wicking socks
- Hat
- Sweat powder (like Goldbond)

Quick Tips Recap
- Arrive early for capybara encounters ($12, on-site only)
- Buy general admission online if you want, but capybara tickets are on-site only
- Bring water, snacks, towel, comfy shoes, moisture-wicking shirt, hat, and sweat powder
